Last night the Senate passed its version of HB 340 on PeachCare.  It contains one helpful section protecting very low income children, but it contains other features that would reduce current eligibility and services.  Now there are two different versions of the bill, so differences between the House and Senate would have to be resolved before the bill could become law. As you know, one reason some legislators have given for proposing HB 340 was the temporary shortfall in federal funding.   Both houses of the General Assembly have agreed in the budget negotiations to a “bridge” loan to cover expenditures until the federal dollars come through.  Most of what is in both versions of HB 340 would reduce services and cause more children to be uninsured.  There has never been a need for HB 340, and there certainly is no need now.  Please thank representatives and senators for providing bridge funding for PeachCare, and ask them not to pass HB 340. There are only 2 legislative days left.  Please contact them right away.

Message to Representatives and Senators:

Thank you for providing a bridge loan for PeachCare until the delayed federal funding is in hand.  You have protected one of Georgia’s most successful programs had have secured health care for eligible children.  The bridge funding has averted any crisis.  Please do not pass HB 340.  We urge you to leave PeachCare intact so that it can continue to help our children to a brighter future.
