  • United Way - Neighbors Helping Neighbors Career and Resource Fair - The United Way will be hosting an exciting highly collaborative, one-day event with the goal of connecting people displaced by Hurricane Katrina and local residents with jobs and child care resources. We will set-up and provide an area to care for 500+ children, while their parents are at the job fair, provide onsite resources for parents, related to child care needs. We need volunteers experienced in working with children to work one or more of the following shifts: 8:00AM to 1:00PM or Noon – 5:00PM. Click here for a volunteer signup sheet (in PDF format)!

  • Rainbows, Inc. - Rainbows, the world’s largest grief support organization is offering Silver Linings -- Community Crisis Support Program to assist youth survivors of Katrina. • Project Open Hand - Project Open Hand will remain on-call with the City of Atlanta and Atlanta Regional Commission for the next few months as the meal delivery organization for evacuees. As needed, this alone will increase the organization's volume by 1,000 meals daily. If you are interested in volunteering to help Project Open Hand, please contact Carl Proctor, Deputy Director.

  • Dress For Success Atlanta - Our mission is to help women make successful transitions into the workplace and retain employment. Our first encounter with a client is our suiting program where we provide a complete outfit for an interview or job search plus one additional work appropriate outfit (e.g., blazer, skirt, blouse). With Katrina evacuees we are providing a week’s worth of work clothing plus casual clothes if we have them. Many of the women have children. It would be great if we had a supply of children’s books and toys that we could add to their shopping bag. Volunteers can assist Katrina victims – i.e. Community Sampler project, Transfer or Provisional project, or just other needs for individual volunteers; two to three hour shifts; can accommodate up to 4 people at a time; weekday times - Monday through Friday, 10 am to 4 pm plus 4 to 8 pm on Wednesdays. Saturdays in the near future. For additional information please contact Elizabeth Kelly.

  • Goodwill Industries of North Georgia, Inc. - Goodwill Career Centers are our primary outreach/assistance for Katrina evacuees as Goodwill will play a greater role in the recovery versus disaster relief. We anticipate a dramatic increase in demand for services as basic needs are met by other organizations in our communities, and evacuees then begin to seek employment. Volunteers are needed in all Metro Atlanta Career Centers to assist Job Seekers. Hours and duties will vary, but generally fall within Monday through Saturday 10am – 7pm time period. Metro Locations: .East Lake 2201 Glenwood Ave (404) 373-0456 - Dee Dee Bullock, Manager; Woodstock Hwy 92 & I-575 (770) 874-0901 - Dee Dee Bullock, Manager; Duluth 1502 Pleasant Hill Rd (770) 564-2447 - Kristina Armstrong, Manager; North DeKalb 3337 Buford Hwy (678) 891-0235 - Kristina Armstrong, Manager.
