Hurricane Katrina Relief

Make A Donation

  • American Red Cross - All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people. You can help the victims of Hurricane Katrina and thousands of other disasters across the country each year by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need.

  • Atlanta Community Food Bank - As thousands of evacuees are arriving in the Atlanta area, the Atlanta Community Food Bank is taking action. The Food Bank, as a member of America's Second Harvest - the Nation's Food Bank Network, is coordinating efforts with The American Red Cross, GEMA (Georgia Emergency Management Agency), FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, and a whole host of other organizations to support disaster relief efforts. The Atlanta Community Food Bank is accepting monetary donations as well as in-person donations of personal care items and non-perishable food products. Please visit the AFCB website for the latest information.

  • Junior League Disaster Fund - The current disaster wrought by Hurricane Katrina has sadly brought the need to support our member Leagues in times of natural disaster to the forefront once more. The Board and staff of AJLI recognize that when natural disasters occur, many Junior Leagues and their members are concerned about the adverse impact on their sister Leagues. This Fund is being established by The Association of Junior Leagues, International, not only to address what may be needed in the wake of Katrina, but also to ensure that we have a process in place and are able to move quickly and effectively whenever disasters occur.

  • Dress for Success Atlanta - Wish list of how JLA can help: Volunteers to serve as personal shoppers to assist one on one with clients (hurricane evacuees who are beginning work, have job interviews or are beginning a job search); volunteers to help sort inventory and stock showroom. • Goodwill Industries of North Georgia, Inc. - Demand for clothing and household items is anticipated to be strong in the near future as families settling in Atlanta must replace virtually everything. Goodwill plans to offer Katrina Disaster Vouchers for evacuees through partner agencies, but could expand our offering with a funding partner such as the Junior League of Atlanta.

  • Project Open Hand - Project Open Hand needs microwave ovens for the victims of Hurricane Katrina who have no way of heating the meals they deliver. Please contact Carl Proctor, Deputy Director if you can assist Project Open Hand with their needs.
